DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division
II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on April
26. Minnesota-Duluth senior first baseman Alex Wojciechowski
is the National Hitter of the Week, while Francis
Marion (S.C.) senior pitcher Matt Kelley is the
National Pitcher of the Week.
Wojciechowski (Coon Rapids, Minn.) led the Bulldog offense to
a 6-0 record against Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State, extending
UMD's winning streak to 12 games. Hit .696 (16-of-23) while slugging
1.783 and getting on-base at a .741 clip with three walks on the
week. He struck for eight home runs - at least one in every game
- as he extended his nation-leading total to 28 on the seasons.
Collected 15 run batted in and crossed the plate 15 times while
adding three stolen bases on the week.
Kelley (Hampton, Ga.) delivered a complete-game four-hit shutout
in series rubber game with Georgia Southwestern. He struck out 13
batters with no walks issued. Only six Hurricanes reached base all
day and he struck out the side in order in both the first and the
sixth.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of
college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and
publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory,
newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player
of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting.
The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication
and writing contests.
