NCBWA NAMES DIVISION I
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 6. Dallas Baptist junior infielder Darik Hall was named National Hitter of the Week, while Texas State senior right-hander Lucas Humpal was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Hall led the Patriots’ offensive attack last week with a .647 batting average (11-for-17) and blasted three home runs, while leading the team in RBI with 13. The Hereford, Arizona native also posted an incredible 1.294 slugging percentage, totaled a team-best 22 bases and ripped a pair of doubles. In Saturday’s win over No. 24 New Mexico, Hall went 5-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI and a double, leading the Patriots to a school record 33 runs. The following day, Hall went 3-for-4 with another home run and drove in four more runs to lift the Patriots from a nine-run deficit to a 12-11 win over the Lobos. In addition to an incredible week at the plate, Hall also earned the win in his start against New Mexico on Saturday, allowing four runs over five innings and striking out four.

Humpal put on an outstanding performance Friday night against Incarnate Word. The senior righty pulled off a complete-game, three-hit shutout of the Cardinals with 11 strikeouts in the game. The Corpus Christi, Texas native did not give up a single extra-base hit. Humpal’s 11 Ks give him 22 strikeouts to just two walks so far this season. He tallied five strikeouts in the first three innings alone and joined the defense to retire the final 13 consecutive batters of the game to clinch the victory.
