NCBWA NAMES DIVISION I
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 24. Austin Peay junior outfielder Logan Gray was named National Hitter of the Week, while Illinois junior right-handed pitcher Cody Sedlock was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Gray hit .611 (11-for-18) with seven runs scored, two doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI, a 1.389 slugging percentage and .632 on-base percentage as Austin Peay completed a perfect 4-0 record. He played in all three games of the weekend OVC series with Eastern Kentucky, the first complete Conference series he has played in 12 months due to injury.

Gray opened the week by going 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in a victory over Lipscomb. The Leawood, Kan., native opened the EKU series by going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI as the Govs won 10-1. He added a single and two RBI in Saturday’s victory and capped the week by going 3-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored and five RBI. He had the game-winning RBI in all three victories over Eastern Kentucky and posted multi-RBI outings in all four games.

Sedlock threw one of the most dominant pitching performances in Illinois history. He struck out 14 Ohio State batters in 10.2 innings, the longest outing in Division I this season, during a 1-0 win in 15 innings Friday night. It marked the longest outing in Division I baseball this season, tied for seventh-most strikeouts in a Division I game this season and was the most strikeouts in a Big Ten game this season.

The Sherrard, Ill., native faced 36 batters and none reached second base between the third and ninth innings and he had six 1-2-3 innings, including a stretch of 13-straight batters retired through the middle frames.
