DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 27. Coastal Carolina senior first baseman Tyler Chadwick was named National Hitter of the Week, while Arizona State sophomore right-hander Ryan Hingst was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Chadwick batted .583 (7-for-12) for the week, but posted a .700 (7-for-10) average in the three-game sweep versus Stetson with 12 RBI, six runs scored, three home runs and a 1.333 slugging percentage. Even though he was 0-for-2 coming off the bench in the loss at the College of Charleston, Chadwick reached base twice, each time on a pair of Cougar errors.

In the Thursday win over Stetson, Chadwick was 3-for-4 with four RBI and a home run. The Waxhaw, North Carolina native gave CCU a 4-0 lead in the first inning with a three-run home run and hit an RBI single in the fifth. On Friday, he was 2-for-3 -- both hits being home runs -- with six RBI. In the first inning, Chadwick gave CCU a 4-0 lead with a two-run home run. Then, in the fourth inning, he smacked a grand slam to straight away center field to be the first Chanticleer to clear the 20-foot batter's eye. Chadwick concluded the series by going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles.

Hingst completed ASU’s first no-hitter since March 23, 2013 in his first start of the season and first career Pac-12 start. It marked the Devils’ second no-hitter in Pac-10/12 Conference play and the school’s third no-hitter at Phoenix Muni, and the 57th in conference history, including just the 12th in a game between two conference teams.

The El Paso, Texas native, whose previous career-long outing was five innings, allowed four baserunners on 121 pitches, including 81 strikes, and struck out a career-best nine. He retired the first nine batters in order, hit one batter and allowed three walks in the middle third of the game, and retired the final 11 batters to close out his historic night.
