FLORIDA TOPS NCBWA DIVISION I POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the 21st year with its 2018 weekly surveys. After a three-week absence, Florida has moved back into the No. 1 spot. Oregon State moved up to No. 2 and Stanford fell to No. 3.

The Gators, ranked No. 1 for the third different time and eighth week total this season, are coming off a 3-1 showing last week against ranked opponents that included an SEC series win over then-No. 15 Georgia.

Oregon State won two-of-three games over Stanford in Corvallis to move up to No. 2. The Beavers wins on Friday and Saturday marked the first time all season that the Cardinal had lost back to back games.

Teams ranked No. 1 this year have been Florida (preseason-March 5, April 2-16, May 14), Oregon State (March 12-26) and Stanford (April 23-current).

NC State and Arkansas each moved up one spot this week to round out the top five. Duke and East Carolina join the top 10 this week.

This week’s biggest mover was Stetson, who jumped up eight spots to No. 15 after sitting at No. 23 last week.

Houston, Florida Atlantic and South Carolina join the top 30 this week after previously receiving votes. They sit at No. 24, 28 and 29, respectively.

The 2018 poll voters come from among 35 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation.

The current survey has representation by 15 different conferences among the 299 baseball-playing schools in the 2018 NCAA Division I ranks. The rankings of 2017 had 13 different DI conferences rated at least one week. For more information or to join the NCBWA, please go to ncbwa.com.
