DALLAS (NCBWA) – A four-game series sweep at
Tarleton State over the weekend paid dividends for Angelo State
on Monday when the Rams raked in 15 first-place votes to assume
its perch atop the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
(NCBWA) Top 25 for the first time in program history.
The Rams become the seventh different team to hold the No. 1
spot in the NCBWA Top 25 this season thanks to an offense that registers
an NCAA-best 10.2 runs per game, while ranking among the top 5 in
eight other offensive statistical categories as well. Junior Josh
Elvir boasts an NCAA-best .466 batting average to go along with
15 home runs and 61 RBI.
Two teams re-entered the poll this week after short hiatuses.
Catawba jumped back into the poll at No. 18 following a home-and-home
sweep of Belmont Abbey last week. Colorado Mines (No. 25) is back
in the poll for the first time since March 12 (Week 4) after taking
three of four at home against Colorado Christian.
