DALLAS (NCBWA) A midweek extra-inning loss
was not enough to put the skids on Angelo States reign atop the
latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)
Division II Top 25 poll, as the Rams grabbed 11 first-place votes
to retain their perch at No. 1 heading into conference tournament
weekend.
The Rams scored three late runs to push their regular season
finale with state rival St. Edwards into extra innings, but ultimately
saw their 17-game win streak come to an end on Tuesday. That was
enough to push some of the limelight onto North Greenville and UC
San Diego, both of whom raked in first-place votes this week as
well.
Two teams re-entered the top 25 this week, including Colorado
School of Mines (No. 23) who strung together a four-game weekend
sweep of MSU Denver to stretch its win streak out to six games.
Mount Olive (No. 25) won three games in the Conference Carolinas
Tournament, but ultimately dropped a tight contest to then-No. 3
North Greenville in the championship game.
