PEMBROKE, N.C. (NCBWA) – A perfect 5-0 week
on the baseball diamond paid dividends for Angelo State this week
as the Rams gathered 16 of a possible 19 first-place votes to stay
atop the national ranking for the eighth-straight week. Idle Tampa
hung on to a pair of first-place votes, while Missouri Southern
snagged one of its own after extending its season-opening win streak
out to nine games.
There was plethora of movement after a flurry of action last
week as three new teams entered the top 10 for the first time this
season. Unbeaten Mount Olive jumped nine spots into the No. 3 position
following a four-game sweep of Southern Wesleyan, while Missouri
Southern made the biggest move of any team this week after rocketing
up 13 spots to No. 5. Point Loma moved into the No. 9 spot despite
still anxiously awaiting the start of its 2021 campaign.
Georgia College, West Florida and Davenport re-entered the top
25 after short absences, while two teams made their season debut
in the national ranking. Lander is in the NCBWA Division II Top
25 for the first time since the final poll of the 2016 season, while
Concordia-Irvine is in the ranking for the first time since March
4 (Week 3) of the 2020 campaign.
