PEMBROKE, N.C. (NCBWA) Colorado Mesa saw its 21-game win streak come to an end on Saturday,
but it was not enough to knock the Mavericks from their perch atop
the NCBWA Division II Top 25 this week. Colorado Mesa collected
17 of a possible 19 first-place votes to stay No. 1, while Central
Missouri picked up the two remaining first-place votes to solidify
its hold on the No. 2 position.
Colorado Mesa tacked up 32 runs across the first three games
of its series at CSU Pueblo on Friday and Saturday, but the Thunderwolves
used a 4-run seventh inning to pull ahead for good and deal the
Mavericks their first loss since March 26. Central Missouri has
now captured 29 of its last 31 outings following a three-game sweep
of Missouri Western on Thursday and Friday that saw the Mules amass
a combined 41 runs.
The top 10 remained relatively unchanged this week, albeit a
handful of teams swapping spots. Western Oregon (No. t23) is in
the NCBWA Division II Top 25 for the first time since the 2012 preseason
poll, while Delta State made its season debut among the nations
top-25 teams at the No. 25 position.
