PEMBROKE, N.C. (NCBWA) – A road doubleheader
sweep of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe Regis on Sunday
helped Colorado Mesa push its win streak out to a dozen games, and
the Mavericks raked in all but one first-place vote this week to
retain its spot atop the NCBWA Division II Top 25.
Southern New Hampshire, which sports a 12-game win streak itself,
nabbed the remaining first-place vote in Wednesday’s poll.
The Mavericks sport the nation’s top batting average (.408) and
have scored an NCAA-best 14.7 runs per game through 26 outings as
well. Sophomore catcher Haydn McGeary ranks third among NCAA Division
II with a .510 (51-for-100) batting average, while also ranking
second in the nation with 53 RBI. The Mavericks have dropped just
two games this season – a season-opening loss to Northwest Nazarene,
as well as a one-run setback in the finale of a four-game road set
with RMAC foe Colorado-Colorado Springs on March 21.
Two teams – MSU Denver (No. 22) and Tusculum (No. 25) – re-entered
this week’s poll after one-week absences. Quincy (No. 23) made its
season debut in the NCBWA Division II Top 25, and is among the nation’s
top 25 teams for the first time since April 23, 2019 (Week 10).
