INDIANAPOLIS (USBWA) – Chandler Jacobs
of Dallas Baptist University (Dallas, Texas) and Sydney Kin of the
University of Findlay (Findlay, Ohio) were named the U.S. Basketball
Writers Association Division II National Players of the Week for
the week ending Jan. 10.
Jacobs, a 6-3 senior guard from Missouri City, Texas, averaged
a double-double last week to lead DBU to a two-game series split
on the road at No. 3-ranked West Texas A&M, averaging 23.0 points
and 10.0 rebounds while shooting 62 percent (18-for-29) from the
field for the No. 21-ranked Patriots. He scored 22 points with 9
rebounds in the opening game of the series, an 84-71 defeat, but
he led DBU to a come-from-behind 87-78 win the next day with a 24-point,
11-rebound double-double. With the win, DBU snapped West Texas A&Ms
nation-leading 45-game home win streak.
Jacobs made 10-of-15 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point
range in the Patriots Jan. 9 win over West Texas A&M. For the week,
he shot 45 percent (5-for-11) from three-point range and 71 percent
(5-for-7) from the free throw line. His 24-point, 11-rebound performance
was his second double-double of the year.
Kin, a 6-3 junior forward from Carey, Ohio, was named the Great
Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Week after a
trio of outstanding performances.
For the week, Kin averaged 28.7 points per game and 13.7 rebounds
per game while shooting 69.2 percent from the floor (36-of-52) and
82 percent (14-of-17) at the free-throw line. Of the 41 rebounds
Kin grabbed, 20 of them came on the offensive glass, which helped
lead Findlay to a 2-1 record including an overtime road win over
the defending G-MAC Champion Walsh Cavaliers.
Kin began the week with 30 points and 19 rebounds despite a 94-77
road loss at Ohio Dominican. Kin followed that performance up with
25 points and eight rebounds in an 80-72 win against Malone and
finished the week with 31 points and 14 rebounds in the overtime
win at Walsh.
Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division
II National Players of the Week. This is the seventh season that
the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division
II.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at
the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some
900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations
in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since
the 1956-57 season. For more information on the USBWA and its award
