PEMBROKE, N.C. (NCBWA) – The jockeying for the
No. 1 spot in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
(NCBWA) Division II Top 25 poll continued on Wednesday as Tampa
reassumed the perch after edging out defending national champion
Wingate by a lone vote.
The Spartans raked in a slim majority of the first-place votes
on Wednesday as well, while Wingate and Point Loma consumed the
remainder of the golden tickets. Tampa took two of three games in
its home series with Saint Leo over the weekend, while Wingate went
4-1 last week, including a weekend sweep of Emmanuel. Point Loma
was 5-1 on the baseball diamond last week, including three wins
against Hawai’i Pacific at home.
Valdosta State (No. 19)
is back in the NCBWA Division II Top 25 for the first time since
April 28 of last season (Week 11). Chico State (No. 18) and West
Chester (No. 23) are back in the national rankings following two-week
absences.
