PEMBROKE, N.C. (NCBWA) A basket of mixed
results last week swung favorably in the direction of defending
national champion Wingate on Wednesday when the Bulldogs hauled
in 17 out of a possible 19 first-place votes to solidify themselves
atop the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)
Division II Top 25.
The Bulldogs, who tacked up three more wins last week with a
home sweep of South Atlantic Conference foe Mars Hill, sport NCAA
Division IIs 23rd-best scoring offense (8.9 runs/game), as well
as one of the nations top pitching staffs (3.89 team ERA). Tampa
and Point Loma collected the other to first-place votes in the Top
25 this week.
Florida Southern (No. 17) is back in the NCBWA Top 25 for the
first time since March 24, 2021 (Week 6), while Slippery Rock (No.
18) made their first appearance in the national rankings since March
11, 2013 (Week 4). West Chester (No. 23) and UNC Pembroke (No. 24)
are back in the Top 25 after short absences.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of
college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and
publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory,
newsletter updates and official votes in the Dick Howser Trophy,
Regional Players of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA
also sponsors Division I Players of the Week, the Stopper of the
Year, and publication and writing contests.
