WINGATE TOPS NCBWA DIVISION II POLL

PEMBROKE, N.C. (NCBWA) –  A basket of mixed results last week swung favorably in the direction of defending national champion Wingate on Wednesday when the Bulldogs hauled in 17 out of a possible 19 first-place votes to solidify themselves atop the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25.

The Bulldogs, who tacked up three more wins last week with a home sweep of South Atlantic Conference foe Mars Hill, sport NCAA Division II’s 23rd-best scoring offense (8.9 runs/game), as well as one of the nation’s top pitching staffs (3.89 team ERA). Tampa and Point Loma collected the other to first-place votes in the Top 25 this week.

Florida Southern (No. 17) is back in the NCBWA Top 25 for the first time since March 24, 2021 (Week 6), while Slippery Rock (No. 18) made their first appearance in the national rankings since March 11, 2013 (Week 4). West Chester (No. 23) and UNC Pembroke (No. 24) are back in the Top 25 after short absences.
