Association continues to honor Div. III standouts

SABIN, MILLER ARE DIVISION III
NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ST. LOUIS (USBWA)Ty Sabin of Ripon College (Ripon, Wis.) and Mikayla Miller of Gustavus Adolphus College (St. Peter, Minn.) were named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Players of the Week for the week ending November 27.

Sabin, a 6-2 senior guard from New Berlin, Wis., scored a school-record 53 points in a 105-100 victory over Loras College on Saturday. He shot 15-of-22 from the field, 5-of-8 from three-point range and 18-of-22 from the foul line while also collecting four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sabin scored 45 of the Red Hawks’ (2-0) 54 points in the second half and went 5-of-5 from three-point range. Earlier in the week, Sabin had 33 points (11-of-19 FG, 3-of-7 3FG, 8-of-9 FT), seven rebounds, five assists, and a steal in an 82-73 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Tuesday. For the week, he averaged 43.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals. Currently leading all of Division III in scoring (43.0 ppg) and owning the highest career scoring average (25.0 ppg) of any player in all three NCAA Divisions, Sabin was also selected as the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

Miller, a 5-8 junior guard from Goodhue, Minn., averaged 30.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 8.0 steals in leading the Gusties (5-0) to two victories. In a 67-47 win over the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Tuesday, Miller scored a career-high 34 points (12-of-22 FG, 7-of-8 FT). She added five rebounds, two assists and eight steals. Then, on Saturday in an 83-71 victory over Buena Vista University, Miller totaled 26 points (6-of-13 FG, 12-of-12 FT), four rebounds, five assists, and another eight steals. Currently ranked #3 in NCAA Division III in steals per game (6.2), Miller was also chosen Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Player of the Week.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the third season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
