DALLAS (FWAA) – The Miami Hurricanes enjoyed a week off and still enjoy the
top spot in the FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll. Oklahoma, with its resounding 49-3 win over
Iowa State, managed to garner one of the 16 first-place votes. OU, the preseason No. 1 in the
poll, is the first team other than Miami to grab a vote for the top slot in the four weeks of
regular-season voting.
The top four teams remain the same, with Virginia Tech and Ohio State following Miami and
Oklahoma. Oregon drops nine spots to No. 14 after its 45-42 loss to Arizona State, while
Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas each move up a notch.
No. 15 USC and No. 16 Penn State are the new entries this week, with Iowa State (previously
No. 9) and Air Force (No. 16) dropping out. USC was ranked No. 16 in the Sept. 30 poll, while
Penn State returns to the rankings after a one-week absence. The Nittany Lions were ranked 15th
two weeks ago.
The FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll, which has made its debut this season, will decide the
winner of the Grantland Rice Trophy, the FWAA's national championship award presented since 1954.
The presentation will be made on Sat., Jan. 4 in Tempe, Ariz., following the Tostitos Fiesta
Bowl.

Arizona State, which upset Oregon, 45-42, in Eugene, is the FWAA's national "Team of the Week." Andrew Walter
threw for a school-record 536 yards and four touchdowns in rallying the Sun Devils from a 21-0 deficit. ASU moved
to 6-2 overall with the win and remained unbeaten (3-0) in Pac-10 play.
The honor is also decided by the 16-member panel that votes in the organization's Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll.
Other teams drawing consideration this week included Notre Dame, after its hard-fought 21-14 win at Air Force,
and Oklahoma State for beating Nebraska for the first time since 1961.
The FWAA "Team of the Week" will continue to be announced each Monday with the Super 16 Poll throughout the
season.
The FWAA, in conjunction with the Charlotte Touchdown Club, also awards a Bronko Nagurski National Defensive
Player of the Week award each week.
