DALLAS (FWAA) – Iowa, Georgia and USC each moved up a notch in the
FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll. But, it's the two unbeatens – Miami and Ohio
State – that remain the unanimous 1-2 picks by the 16 pollsters. For the fourth
straight week, Miami has garnered all 16 first-place votes, with Ohio State grabbing each
of the second-place mentions.
Oklahoma dropped from No. 3 to No. 9 after its loss at Oklahoma State and previously
7th-ranked Notre Dame took a fall to No. 11 after losing at USC. Florida State moved back
into the rankings at No. 15, while West Virginia, fresh off its win in the "Backyard Brawl"
over Pittsburgh, debuted at No. 16. Colorado State and Florida dropped from the rankings.
The FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll, which has made its debut this season, will decide the
winner of the Grantland Rice Trophy, the FWAA's national championship award presented since 1954.
The presentation will be made on Sat., Jan. 4 in Tempe, Ariz., following the Tostitos Fiesta
Bowl.
