DALLAS (FWAA) – The Miami Hurricanes continue their run at the top of the
FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 poll. Unbeaten with the nation's longest winning streak, the 'Canes
grabbed 14 of the 16 first-place votes after topping West Virginia 40-23 in Morgantown.
No. 2 Oklahoma, however, did not receive any No. 1 votes as the remaining two went to Notre Dame
off its' 34-24 win at Florida State. The two first-place votes helped to vault the Fighting Irish to
No. 3 in the poll, up from No. 6 a week ago. Oklahoma had the week off.
Iowa, tied at No. 9, and No. 11 USC each moved up four slots. The Hawkeyes dealt Michigan its worst home loss
since 1967 and USC tripped Oregon, 44-33. Meanwhile, the Big 12 added a third and fourth entry with Colorado
– making a return to the poll at No. 12 – and Kansas State getting back in the loop at No. 14.
The Buffs were ranked sixth in the preseason poll and crushed Texas Tech, 37-13. K-State drummed Baylor, 44-10,
in Waco.
Arizona State makes its debut at No. 16, fresh of its 27-16 win over Washington. The win kept the Sun Devils
unbeaten in conference play. LSU, Florida State, Oregon and Penn State dropped out this week.
The FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll, which has made its debut this season, will decide the
winner of the Grantland Rice Trophy, the FWAA's national championship award presented since 1954.
The presentation will be made on Sat., Jan. 4 in Tempe, Ariz., following the Tostitos Fiesta
Bowl.

Notre Dame, after the win in Tallahassee, has also been named the FWAA's national "Team of the Week." The Irish forced
four turnovers and won despite earning just 13 first down in continuing their unbeaten season.
The honor is also decided by the 16-member panel that votes in the organization's Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll.
Other teams drawing consideration this week included Iowa, for its domination of Michigan in Ann Arbor; Auburn, for its 31-7
win over LSU; Wyoming, for its shocking 34-26 upset of Air Force; and Tulsa, which ended the nation's longest losing streak at
17 with a 20-0 win over UTEP.
The FWAA "Team of the Week" will continue to be announced each Monday with the Super 16 Poll throughout the
season.
The FWAA, in conjunction with the Charlotte Touchdown Club, also awards a Bronko Nagurski National Defensive
Player of the Week award each week.
