DALLAS (FWAA) – Miami has returned to the No. 1 spot in the FWAA/Grantland
Rice Super 16 Poll after recording its 31st straight win, 26-3 over Tennessee. The convincing win,
coupled with Oklahoma's 30-26 loss at Texas A&M, puts the Hurricanes back on top in unanimous fashion
as Miami earned each of the FWAA's 16 first-place votes this
week.
Ohio State, the only other remaining unbeaten team, earned each of the 16 second-place votes to forge
a solid spot behind Miami, The Sooners dropped to No. 3, ahead of fellow once-beatens Texas, Washington
State, Iowa and Georgia. Penn State's return to the poll at No. 16 gives the Big Ten
a national best
four teams in the top 16. LSU and Florida State also returned to the poll, while N.C. State,
Oregon and Bowling Green dropped out.
While Oklahoma began the season as the FWAA's top-ranked team, Miami has now been No. 1 in six
of the seven regular-season polls released. Oklahoma's stay at the top last week was short-lived.
The FWAA/Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll, which has made its debut this season, will decide the
winner of the Grantland Rice Trophy, the FWAA's national championship award presented since 1954.
The presentation will be made on Sat., Jan. 4 in Tempe, Ariz., following the Tostitos Fiesta
Bowl.

Texas A&M, which upset previously unbeaten and top-ranked Oklahoma in College Station is the FWAA's national "Team of the Week."
True freshman quarterback Reggie McNeal came off the bench and threw four touchdown passes as the Aggies beat a No. 1
team for the first time in school history.
The honor is also decided by the 16-member panel that votes in the organization's Grantland Rice Super 16 Poll.
Navy, for its near-upset of Notre Dame, and Miami, after its win at Tennesssee, were the other teams drawing consideration
this week.
The FWAA "Team of the Week" will continue to be announced each Monday with the Super 16 Poll throughout the
season.
The FWAA, in conjunction with the Charlotte Touchdown Club, also awards a Bronko Nagurski National Defensive
Player of the Week award each week.
