DALLAS (FWAA) – The Minnesota Golden Gophers moved to 9-0 for the first time in more than 100 years, beating Penn State 31-26 in front of their first sellout crowd in four years. The Gophers ended a 13-game losing streak to ranked opponents and beat a top-five team for the first time in 20 seasons to earn the Reveal Suits National Team of the Week honor for games of the weekend of Nov. 9.

The announcement came on "Playbook” on ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM. Each Monday during the season the Reveal Suits National Team of the Week will be unveiled during the program, which airs weekdays from 1-4 p.m. ET. The FWAA's All-America Committee selects the weekly winner and all Division I FBS and FCS schools are eligible to be selected.

Tanner Morgan completed 18-of-20 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Golden Gophers to their first 9-0 start since the 1904 season. Morgan hit Rashod Bateman with a 66-yard touchdown catch to open the scoring, and Bateman finished with seven catches for 203 yards, the second-most in program. Tyler Johnson had seven catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. Morgan’s 90 percent completion rate made him just the second FBS quarterback in the past 20 seasons to have multiple games in a single season hitting 90 percent of his passes (with 20-plus attempts). He hit 21-of-22 on Sept. 28 against Purdue.

The Gophers rolled up 321 total yards and a 24-13 halftime lead, by then posting the most points allowed in a game by the Nittany Lions this season. Antonio Winfield Jr. led Minnesota’s defense with two interceptions – each coming inside the Golden Gophers’ 10-yard line – that led to 14 points to go with a team-high 11 tackles. The second pick tied the school record of seven for a season.

This is the second time for Minnesota to earn the FWAA's National Team of the Week honor. The other came in 2014.

The other National Team of the Week nominees for the weekend of Nov. 9 were:

• Appalachian State (8-1): The Mountaineers beat another Power 5 team on the road, taking down South Carolina 20-15, to become just the seventh Group of Five team since the Sun Belt was formed in 2001 to post two Power Five road wins in the same season. App State won at North Carolina, 34-31, on Sept. 21.

• Dartmouth (8-0): In a rematch of Ivy League unbeatens from 2018, the Big Green avenged last year's loss to Princeton in a 27-10 triumph at Yankee Stadium. Quarterback Jared Gerbino ran for two touchdowns and defensive end Niko Lalos returned an interception 22 yards for another as Dartmouth took the lead in the Ivy League while winning its 10th straight and 20th of its last 21.

• LSU (9-0): The Tigers ended Alabama's 31-game home win streak, never trailing in a 46-41 win. LSU had a 33-13 halftime lead. Joe Burrow finished with 393 passing yards with three touchdowns and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored four times. The Tigers are 9-0 for the fifth time in school history.

• Nevada (6-4): The Wolf Pack beat a ranked team on the road for the first time in school history, taking down San Diego State, 17-13. Wide receiver Elijah Cooks threw a 50-yard pass on a trick play to set up Devonte Lee's go-ahead 1-yard run with 10:31 to go for the winning score.

The Football Writers Association of America has named a national team of the week since the 2002 season. In addition to the members of the FWAA All-America Committee, one fan vote from Twitter decides the weekly honor.
