NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

ST. LOUIS (USBWA)Jordan Rezendes of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (Dartmouth, Mass.) and Megan Robertson of Amherst College (Amherst, Mass.) were named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Players of the Week for the week ending Feb. 22.

Rezendes, a 6-2 junior guard from Onset, Mass., averaged 41 points, eight rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as the Corsairs (13-12, 9-5) of the Little East Conference clinched the No. 3 seed in their upcoming conference tournament. Rezendes set a new UMass Dartmouth single-game scoring record on Saturday by pouring in 51 points (third-highest one-game total in NCAA DIII this season) in a 92-80 win over Keene State College (17-8, 8-6). He shot 18-of-32 from the field, 4-of-8 from three-point range and 11-of-12 from the foul line while also contributing six rebounds, six assists and a steal. That performance followed a 31-point outing (10-of-22 FG, 2-of-5 3FG, 9-of-10 FT) in a 75-64 loss to Rhode Island College (18-7, 10-4) on Tuesday. Rezendes' double-double included 10 rebounds, an assist, two steals, and a block. For the week, he shot 51.8 percent (28-of-54) from the field, 46.1 percent (6-of-13) from behind the arc and 90.9 percent (20-0f-22) from the foul line.

Robertson, a 6-2 senior forward from Tewksbury, Mass., averaged 18 points, six rebounds and 3.5 blocks during a 2-0 week for No. 10-ranked (D3hoops.com) Amherst (23-2, 8-2) of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). She shot 85.0 percent (17-of-20) from the field while also going 2-of-4 from the foul line. Robertson scored 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting in an 83-53 victory over Wesleyan University (9-14, 2-8) on Tuesday in the Jeffs' regular-season finale. She also added three rebounds, two blocks and a steal in just 19 minutes. Robertson then produced a 16-point (8-of-9) effort in a 62-40 NESCAC Tournament quarterfinal victory over Colby College (16-9, 4-6) on Saturday. In that contest, Robertson added nine rebounds and five blocks over 27 minutes. Her efforts during the week moved Robertson into the all-time lead in career blocks (217) and into fourth place in career points (1,135) and career rebounds (783) at Amherst.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the first season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
