NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its initial 2021 NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on Feb. 14. University of North Georgia senior outfielder Brady Eeles is the National Hitter of the Week and redshirt junior teammate Parker Morrison is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Eeles (Dallas, Ga./Cornerstone) produced in all three wins against USC Aiken over the weekend. He hit .667 with a 1.083 slugging percentage, while collecting multiple hits in all three games, including a two-for-four effort in the opener with a double, homer and two RBI. He went three-for-four in game two and again in game three, adding another double and driving in four. Eeles collected six total RBI for the week with three runs scored and struck out only once in 12 at bats.

Morrison (Cumming, Ga./Forsyth Central) tossed his second straight complete-game shutout on Feb. 12 versus USC Aiken. Morrison went the distance in the second game in the series, allowing just four hits and no runs with two walks and ten strikeouts. He got stronger as the game went on, retiring the final 13 batters in a row to finish the game, five of those via strikeout with no Pacer advancing past second base. Morrison has now pitched 18 shutout innings this season and leads the PBC in ERA, innings pitched and strikeouts.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
