NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on Feb. 21. Young Harris College senior outfielder Tucker Greer is the National Hitter of the Week and Lenoir-Rhyne sophomore hurler Andrew Patrick is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Greer (Paris, Ky./Lincoln Trail College) hit .615 with a 1.538 slugging percentage as YHC went 2-1 this past week against Georgia Southwestern. He went 7-for-13 in the series with three home runs, a double, a triple and nine RBIs. Greer opened with a double and home run and four RBIs, then drove in another in game two. He went 4-for-4 in the third game with two home runs and a triple and four more RBIs. Greer scored seven runs and drew two walks.

Patrick (Catawba, N.C./Catawba Valley CC) led the Bears to a 4-0 win over nationally ranked No. 8 Catawba by throwing the first no-hitter of the year in the South Atlantic Conference. Patrick's no-hitter is the first by a Lenoir-Rhyne player since 1997. He went the distance, allowing no runs and no hits over seven innings with six strikeouts.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
