NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 7. Colorado Mesa sophomore catcher/designated hitter Haydn McGeary is the National Hitter of the Week and Pitt-Johnstown senior Dylan Heid is the National Pitcher of the Week.

McGeary (Peoria, Ariz./Thunderbird HS) had a monster week during Colorado Mesa’s mini two-game sweep of Adams State. McGeary hit .700 (7-for-10) with five of his seven hits going for extra bases. Not only that, he drove in 16 runs, including nine in Sunday’s victory. McGeary’s OPS in the two games was 2.436 and he slugged over 1.556.

Heid (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) threw a no-hitter in Saturday’s 2021 season-opener against West Liberty (W.Va.) earning him Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Pitcher of the Week honors. A righty, Heid fanned 13 in the seven-inning, 1-0 victory. Heid faced 24 hitters, walked three and hit one in 93 pitches.
