NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on April 18, 2021. Wheeling University's junior outfielder Chris Iazzetta is the National Hitter of the Week and Le Moyne senior pitcher Joe Vail is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Iazzetta (Clinton, N.J. / IMG Academy) helped the Cardinals sweep a four-game series at Frostburg State this past weekend. He batted 10 for 17 (.588) with three home runs, two doubles, 13 RBI, seven runs scored and three stolen bases. In the series finale on Sunday, Iazzetta went 4-for-6 with two three-run home runs, six RBIs and two runs scored to help Wheeling hold on for a 15-11 win in extra-innings.

Vail (Cromwell, Conn. / Xavier HS) went 1-0 with a no-hitter, a 0.00 ERA and 21 strikeouts over 12 innings pitched in two starts for Le Moyne last week. He opened the week by tossing a no-hitter and striking out a career-high 12 in a 6-0 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday. His no-hitter is the third by a Dolphin in the program's current Division II era (2012-present). On Sunday, he struck out nine over five innings, without allowing an earned run, in a 5-4 win over Adelphi University helping the Dolphins to a 5-1 record for the week.
