NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 28, 2021. Georgia Southwestern senior outfielder Jonathan Martin is the National Hitter of the Week and MSU Denver senior Cade Crader is the National Pitcher of the Week, as both were selected unanimously.

Martin (Irwinville, Ga. / Irwin County HS) was unstoppable in four games last week, hitting .714 in four games with five home runs and 18 RBI. He became only the second player in Peach Belt Conference history to hit four home runs in a single game, the first since 1993, in the series finale against Augusta. That tied the PBC record, while his nine RBI in the game tied for fifth-most in a single game in PBC history. He hit .750 in the three-game set, hitting two doubles and a homer in the opener with three RBI, then going 5-for-5 in game two with two more doubles and four RBI. He also drove in a pair against Valdosta State in a mid-week game. He had a 1.667 slugging percentage and .765 on-base percentage, scored 12 runs and stole a base. His four home runs marked the most in a single game in all three NCAA divisions this season.

Crader (Aurora, Colo. / Grandview HS) pitched a nine-inning, perfect game in a victory over Colorado State University-Pueblo. It is only the 11th, nine-inning perfect game in NCAA Division II history while there have been 17 other perfect games of fewer than nine-innings. Crader had 10 strikeouts in his 27-up, 27-down performance, and was efficient with only throwing 109 pitches. It is believed to be the first no-hitter of any kind in program history. Crader improved to 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA that ranks fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. He is second in the league with 51 strikeouts and has only walked six.
