DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on February 28, 2021. UNC Pembroke senior outfielder Ethan Baucom is the National Hitter of the Week and Shorter senior righty Taylor Boisclair is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Baucom (Rockingham, N.C./Richmond Senior HS) led the Braves to a three-game sweep at Claflin over the weekend. He went seven-for-13 with two doubles and a home run. Baucom had a .923 slugging percentage with nine RBI, while he had multiple runs scored in all three games. He began the series with a two-for-four outing in the opener with a double and four RBI. He went one-for-three in game two with another RBI and two-for-six in the finale with a double, a homer and four more RBI. Baucom also stole a base, drew five walks and added a sac fly.

Boisclair (Alto, Ga./West Georgia) threw nine shutout innings against Valdosta State, earning the win for the Hawks. He allowed only three hits without surrendering a walk and fanned 15 Blazers in the middle game of a three-game series.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
