NCBWA NAMES DIVISION II NATIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II National Players of the Week awards for the week ending on April 11, 2021. Truman State senior outfielder Kory Carter is the National Hitter of the Week and University of Mary sophomore pitcher Jonathan Draheim is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Carter (St. Charles, Mo. / Lutheran-St. Charles HS) slashed .625/.625/1.563 to earn Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors. He set new multiple career-highs with four hits, two home runs, and four RBIs. Carter tallied seven extra-base hits for the week, including four home runs, and three doubles. He recorded ten RBI and scored nine runs in a four-game series against William Jewell.

Draheim (Jordan, Minn. / Jordan HS) tossed the fourth no-hitter in UMary program history in a 4-0 victory over Upper Iowa. He fanned five in the seven-inning complete game. Draheim pitched six perfect innings to finish the game and now is 4-0 in four starts and three complete games this season. He earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week honors for his efforts against the Peacocks.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
