NCBWA NAMES NATIONAL
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending February 10th.

Aragon
Larkin

Nicholls State senior righthander Phillip Aragon earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Shaun Larkin of Cal State Northridge was named Hitter of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Aragon became the first player in the history of Nicholls State baseball to toss a perfect game, doing so in last Saturday’s 10-0 victory at Prairie View A&M. Aragon retired all 21 batters he faced in the seven-inning game, striking out two. He is now 2-0 on the season as the Colonels are off to their best start (6-0) since joining Division I in 1981.

Larkin belted four home runs and went 8-for-10 at the plate for the Matadors last week. Against Loyola Marymount on February 5, the senior second baseman was 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, three RBI, a walk and run scored in a 6-5 win. In a three-game series over the past weekend against Washington State, he hit three more homers and reached base safely in all 16 of his plate appearances (six hits, 10 walks). In four games on the week, he scored nine runs, walked 11 times and had a slugging percentage of 2.200. The senior transfer from Texas Tech has eight home runs in the first seven games of the year.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official Web site, www.ncbwa.com.
