Virginia Tech junior outfielder Brad Bauder was named
the National Hitter of the Week, while Wichita State junior righthander
John Tetuan took the Pitcher of the Week honors. The NCBWA
Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week
and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
Bauder exploded during Virginia Tech's weekend series at Georgetown.
The junior collected two hits and drove in two runs during a 10-5
win against the Hoyas, then went 8-for-8 at the plate with four
home runs, two singles, a double and a triple in a record-breaking
35-4 victory. He drove in 14 runs and scored seven, capping his
performance with a grand slam home run in the eighth inning. The
Tech center fielder set school single-game marks for hits, RBI and
total bases (23) and tied records for runs scored and home runs.
His totals for runs, RBI and total bases were BIG EAST Conference
records. Bauder also hit for the cycle during his record-breaking
outing.
At Creighton on April 19, Tetuan threw a one-hit shutout and
struck out a career-high 13 Bluejays in a 1-0 win. Tetuan, who went
nine innings, walked just one batter in improving to 5-0 on the
season. It was the first one-hitter thrown by a Shocker pitcher
in a nine-inning game since Mike Brandley did it at Southern Illinois
in 1993.
Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of
college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and
publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit
