NCBWA NAMES NATIONAL
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO (NBCWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending May 5th.

Krimmel
Rogelstad
Wheeler

George Washington senior infielder Matt Krimmel was named the National Hitter of the Week, while San Jose State senior RHP Jeremy Rogelstad and Rutgers senior RHP Tom Wheeler share the Pitcher of the Week honors. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Krimmel collected 12 hits in 23 at-bats (.522) last week with four home runs and 16 RBI. He collected three hits, including two doubles, and knocked in three runs against nationally-ranked Richmond on April 29. Krimmel drove in two runs in two of the Colonials' three games versus Duquesne this past weekend, while reaching base an additional four times via walk. He went 4-for-5 with two home runs, including a game-winning grand slam, and seven RBI in GW's 10-7 victory over George Mason on April 30.

Rogelstad, a senior from Benicia, Calif., dominated No. 9 Stanford on May 1, throwing a complete game shutout in the 12-0 victory. Rogelstad (7-4) allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out six. It was just his second win in his last nine appearances.

Wheeler shut out nationally-ranked Notre Dame, 11-0, for the first time in 230 games and stopped the Irish's 16-game win streak. The senior allowed just two hits in the contest while striking out nine. He retired 12 in a row before back-to-back walks in the ninth and struck out the side in the seventh. Wheeler is now 8-2 this year and 24-7 in his career, two wins shy of the school victory mark of 26 (Darrin Winston, 1988).

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official Web site, www.ncbwa.com.
