NCBWA NAMES NATIONAL
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO (NBCWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its National Hitter and Pitcher of the Week awards for the period ending February 17th.

Theodorakos
Schade

Baylor junior lefthander Jared Theodorakos earned Pitcher of the Week honors, while Ryan Schade of Western Carolina was named Hitter of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

Theodorakos fired a one-hitter against then-No. 6 Southern California during the second game of the Bears' three-game dominance of USC. He held the Trojans without a hit for the first 7 1/3 innings at Dodger Stadium before allowing a 2-2 pitch to single to center in the bottom of the eighth. The junior struck out a career-high 11 batters, walked three and tossed the first complete game of his career.

Schade, a senior shortstop from Lewisburg, Pa., helped Western Carolina sweep a three-game series from Wright State over the weekend. Schade hit .692 in the three games, going 9-for-13 with four doubles, seven runs scored and six RBI. He was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs with a pair of doubles in the first game of the series and followed that with three hits, two RBI and two doubles in the nightcap. On Sunday, Schade collected three hits, an RBI and scored four runs including the game-winning run in the seventh inning.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association's official Web site, www.ncbwa.com.
