Hot start vaults Miami to No. 2
TEXAS STAYS ATOP NCBWA POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The Texas Longhorns opened the season with a three-game sweep at San Diego State, outscoring the Aztecs, 29-8, to keep the top spot. The Longhorns host Texas-Pan American in their home opener on Wednesday. Miami, off to its first 4-0 start since 1994, moved up two spots to No. 2. The 'Canes host South Florida in a three-game set this weekend as Miami plays an early-season schedule that features 20 of its first 24 games at Mark Light Field.

There are no new entries in the poll this week, so the SEC continues to pace all conferences with eight ranked teams. The ACC – with new member Miami – boasts six. The Big 12 and Pac-10 each have four teams in the Top 35.
