DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with
its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through
June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The Tulane Green Wave completed an unbeaten week with a three-game
sweep of East Carolina and Texas dropped three straight to Baylor to open
Big 12 play to cause a change at the top of the poll. While Tulane moved
up to No. 1, Cal State Fullerton took two of three from Arizona to assume
the No. 2 ranking. LSU moved up three spots to No. 3, and Georgia Tech and
Arkansas round out the top five.
There were five new entries in the Top 35 this week, including San Francisco
from the West Coast Conference. Three of the five teams that dropped out
are from the SEC, leaving the league with seven ranked schools, still tops
among all conferences.
