DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with
its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through
June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The Texas Longhorns swept a three-game series from Big 12 South
rival Oklahoma over the weekend to maintain the top spot in the NCBWA poll.
On Saturday, freshman Adrian Alaniz threw the 19th no-hitter in school history
in Texas' 4-0 win. The rest of the top five also remained the same. Baylor,
which took a three-game series from Texas earlier in the season and beat
Kansas in three straight this past weekend, rumbled up to No. 9 in the poll,
a rise of 14 spots.
