DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with
its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through
June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The top-ranked Texas Longhorns matched their best start (15-0)
in ten years, polishing off Youngstown State in three straight over the
weekend and earning Augie Garrido his 1,500th career win, to keep the top
spot in the poll. Tulane took two of three from Pepperdine and remains No.
2. LSU swept a Saturday doubleheader from Houston to fill the third slot
and South Carolina and North Carolina each remained unbeaten by completing
weekend sweeps to round out the Top 5.
Louisiana-Lafayette, at No. 24, is among four new teams to enter the
poll this week. The SEC, with nine schools in the rankings, leads all conferences.
The ACC and Big 12 each boast six schools in the poll.
