DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with
its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through
June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The top-ranked Texas Longhorns moved to 7-0 with a three-game
sweep of UNLV to open a 12-game homestand that features a visit from No.
5 Stanford, which swept three games from Kansas, this weekend. Miami is
off to its best start (7-0) since 1992 and kept its hold on No. 2. The 'Canes
travel to Gainesville for a three-game set with Florida this weekend. No.
3 Cal State Fullerton took a pair from Fresno State and will get a look
at poll newcomer USC this weekend. Tulane, at No. 4, opened its 2005 campaign
with three wins over Southeast Missouri State and will host No. 15 Arizona
State this weekend.
USC is the only new entry to the poll this week, giving the Pac-10 five
ranked teams. But the SEC continues to pace all conferences with eight ranked
teams. The ACC – with new member Miami – boasts six. The Big 12 has four
teams in the Top 35.
