TEXAS RETAINS TOP RANKING NCBWA POLL

DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.

The top-ranked Texas Longhorns finished pre-conference play with a blanking of Rice and a three-game sweep of Purdue to move to 21-1 and retain their No. 1 ranking. South Carolina swept a two-game, home-and-home set with Clemson to improve to 15-1 and move up to No. 2. Cal State Fullerton took two of three from Tulane in New Orleans to move up to No. 3 and drop the Green Wave down two spots to No. 4. Georgia Tech continues its climb in the poll, up to No. 5 after scoring 47 runs in a three-game sweep of Wake Forest.
