DALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association
continues its tradition of NCAA Division I polls for the eighth year with
its 2005 weekly surveys. Weekly polls will continue each Monday through
June 28, following the NCAA World Series in Omaha, Neb.
The top-ranked Texas Longhorns took two of three from Arizona
over the weekend to move to 17-1 and hold on to the top spot. South Carolina,
fresh off two tournament wins in Minneapolis, jumped to No. 3 and Rice,
with two wins in three games of tournament play in Round Rock, Texas, moved
up to No. 5.
Michigan, at No. 29, is among two new teams to enter the poll this week.
The Wolverines are the only Big Ten team in the rankings. The SEC still
paces all conferences with nine.
